The site is located in a industries dominated suburb of Chengdu, where an old building of shoes’ workshops has been preserved to integrate new programs, new office and a Sales center at the ground floor. The building has a regular frame structure, simple and functionalist. However, face to the recently urbanized avenue, the building is isolated and its main elevation becomes obsolete. Be convinced by the necessity of an innovating project with a distinguished cultural identity, our client has recognized, by our efforts, the value of the old building and potentials to make coexist charm of the past and contemporary energy.

A new façade has been built in order to erase stories’ divisions and the functional openings, all complexity of the old elevations. This porous façade is made by perforated aluminum panels. It is light, precise and translucid, in contrast with the existing building, solid, functional and with a industrial red.

The interior space dialogue with the outside mineral square by giving a strong contrast of tones.

Different elevation patterns express sunlight totally differently, the conception of elevation must consider every detail of fabrication, transportation, installation and maintenance. Simpler our design is, more factors must be taken into account.
