We hope that architecture can help users understand the memory and spirit of the place through spatial form. The space created by architecture is neither purely inward nor simply conforming to the form of the landscape. We are trying to create a spatial medium that can connect people and the site.

As the preliminary base of A8 Design Center, CABANE A8 will host various design related offline activities such as A8 Design Center education courses, designer residency, salon dialogues, and small exhibitions in the next four to five years. The high-frequency and composite usage requires the plane to have great flexibility and plasticity, reserving elasticity for the future. At the same time, we still hope to express A8 Design Center's pioneering attitude towards design and attention to the young designer community to a certain extent through this space.

The Luke Island where CABANE A8 is located is located in the central area of the Luhu Ecological City, with a relaxed and cheerful site feature. As a sports base and family vacation theme park, Luke Island is known as the "Chengdu Internet Celebrity Island" and attracts over 400000 visitors every year; At the same time, it also hopes to collaborate with the A8 Design Center to comprehensively upgrade with the theme of "design and art". Through the landing of architectural, landscape, and installation works with design, art, interactivity, and practicality, design related content and events will be formed - CABANE A8 and its mission can be seen as the beginning of this series of practices.

We and Party A have chosen a lightweight intervention form from the beginning: on the one hand, it is necessary for rapid construction and landing, and on the other hand, it responds to the state that this small island has always adhered to since its construction, taking nature and environment as the most important carrier experience for human activities. There is a composite functional intermediate zone between the box and the environment, which places all service spaces within this thickness. At the same time, the existence of this middle zone also makes it possible for the box to extend outward, appearing at different heights in a 40M2 space without appearing abrupt: a passage for users to quickly enter and exit, a main usage space, and a small-scale space for people to overlook. Compared to the spatial scale, Cabane A8 adopts an eco-friendly wooden structure. The structural hierarchy of beams and secondary beams is directly exposed in the indoor space, forming a coffered roof form together with skylights. The delicate and smooth wooden texture faintly revealed under the white wood paint gives a sense of closeness, while also extending the sense of spatial height.

The outdoor form is the result of the combination of this space, and the sloping roof makes the scale more pleasant, with a hint of momentum, forming a tension of dialogue with the environment. This conversation will continue over time. We chose a transparent expanded metal mesh as the material for the outer facade, allowing people to read the differences in internal space and appearance from the outside. The relationship between gaps and metal reflections allows light to participate in the changes of architecture: it appears as a solid under sunlight and as transparent as a mesh when the outside world is dark. We hope that the changes brought by time to design can provide observers with a sustained sense of freshness, thereby generating curiosity to further focus on various activities and content related to design taking place in the space.
